Long time friend just bought an '03 Excursion with the 5.4. He passed up on the V-10 and PSD because he got a super deal on the 5.4 powered Ex. Actually he said it runs pretty darn good. He tows only mototcycle trailers, so he doesn't really need too much power. However, he now wants to supercharge the thing. I don't really know what the results of this are, so I told him I would post the question and let him know what I find. So.......anybody done this?
If it's anything like turbo charging the bottom end needs to be strengthened<sp> to handle the increased torque. When turbo's hit the seen heavy in the seventies folks were blowin' the bottom ends out of their motors. I'm sure some one around here has a more authoritive answer, just thought I'de pass this along in case no one brings it up.

Yea, Doug. I, thought the same thing. I am looking at the Harley Davidson and Lightening to see if the bottom end is the same. I am not really sure, but I think only a blower stresses the bottom end. Supercharging is not that big of a deal........I THINK??????? Although I am wrong a majority of the time anyway
Correct me if i am wrong, but i think that a blower and supercharger are the same thing?
I would agree that the bottom end may be the weak link. I am sure it would hold up for a while, but the long term effects are what i would be concerned with. Also, your friend has to realize that once he does this, he will probably not be able to get any warranty work done on his engine.
Blower Supercharger same, turbo different. But I think you are talking about the same stresses on the bottom end. Also good point regarding the warraty issue.

I would have to disagree. I have a 1990 Mustang 5.0 with a supercharger pushing 11psi. The engine is bone stock internally (for now) and is has 135,000 well beaten miles on it. Ford builds a strong bottom end, the key is maintainance.
