clicking clutch

I've got a '98 Ranger 3.0 V6. When I release the clutch in first gear, I hear a clicking sound coming from underneath. It does allow me to change gears though. Any ideas?

Is it a single click, could it be described as a thump or clunk also.

Ken,

it is a series of clicks. when the clutch pedal is fully released from the floor it stops.

my 97 v6 4.0L does the same thing.. but it went away for a while.. i duno what it was tho..sorry i cant help you out.. just lettin you know your not the only one out there that has the prob

i could also be described as a grinding noise.

I'm willing to bet that it is your release bearing. I have had this fail twice on my old 98 Ranger, and it did exactly what you describe. It was particulary bad in wet weather. Good Luck!
