ticka...ticka...ticks

So, now that it has quit, should I just leave it alone? I am thinking something blocked a oil passage somewhere and that caused the lifter to start ticka'ing.

I plan on changing oil and filter today. Hopefully what ever it was was caught by the filter.

Before you change the oil, I'd run about half a quart of MMO (marvel mystery oil) in the crankcase for about 20 miles. That should free up the lifters.

After that, use a diesel grade CH-4, CI-4, SL grade oil. It has more detergents, anti-wear additives, and soot handling capability. It should keep the dirt and sludge in suspention so your lifters dont get gunked up again. I'd suggest Chevron Delo, Shell Rotella, or Mystik JT-8 in 10w30.

Then, I'd suggest a quality oil filter, not a fram. Something like the Napa Gold or Motorcraft.

Great reply, Thanks. I didn't even think of the MMO, although I use it on all the old guns I buy to help remove cosmoline. so it should do the trick on the lifters.
Good advice on the oil also, and I already use anything but fram. If I had to I would use a roll of toilet paper before using a fram.

Glad to help.

Dont laugh, there is actually a filter that uses old toilet paper rolls!

And yes, I'm sure it'd work better than fram.
