brakes pulling
I noticed the pistons boots on each caliper are worn through. I have tried to get parts at Napa, Autozone and Pepboys without success. Neither loaded calipers or the rebuild kits are readily available without special order. Due to the holidays all shipping is busy and alot of parts houses are already closed.
I would like input on whether to replace or rebuild the calipers once the parts become available.
Cost is a factor, but I.m not afraid of getting dirty. the rebuild looks to be the better option, but is it a shade-tree mechanic type of job ? Is there any need for machining the piston or cylinder ? Or is it just a matter of cleaning, regreasing, and reinstalling the parts ?
Thank you in advance for your input....

If it were me, I'd just replace the whole caliper...and do it in pairs.
But that is not always the cheapest route.
You'll need some emery cloth to clean the pistons and bores, and air compressor to get the pistons out and a brake bleeder or a good patient friend.
I've rebuilt motorcycle calipers and would enjoy doing the Super Duty calipers but for me, personally, I don't have time.
Good luck!
Also, check what actually comes in the rebuild kit. SOmetimes you may (depending on the manufacturer of the kit) have to buy seperately the very item that you need because they don't include it.
