Just the other day, my buddy, whom i work with, had to pilot a 400bbl to Ft.Nelson.
Our pilot cars are both half tons (one of em is &$^#%, foam or something in the block)
So he took #52- the nice one...short box, lotsa power, goes like snot. Its a 2000 I believe. Anyway. about mile 202ish on the Alaska Hiway, goin roughly 105km/h... hit some black ice, started goin sideways, cranked the wheel the opposite way, hit the ditch rolled once or twice, he got tossed through the back window (not wearing seatbelt) which also had a headache rack, landed 30 ft from the pickup. He says he heard the truck he was piloting brakes lock up.
Anuyway, my buddy got up and walked away with a bruise on his ankle,, and a little sore the next day, lucky to be alive.
Point of my story is..... they brought the truck back to the yard, i seen it today. The roof has some good dents in it...not caved in at all whatsoever, the hood is inpecible (SP?), and the box on the pass side has a couple dents in it, driver side fender is pushed in a bit, all but one window is broken and of course the pilot sign is a little mangled. Oh ya and 1 flat tire. I am amazed at the look of it for being rolled over and wat not.
So I open the door...it dings away...keys are in it. So I think..hmm lets see if she fires up. Fired right up like she was brand new.
Its right wild. Lucky he was drivin a fordddddddd
Originally posted by ctfuzzy Tim, obviously I wasn't there. But I'd have to bet it was for the same reason he was driving over 100KPH where black ice was a known hazard.
. . . just a guess.
