Wife's '99 Expedition (5.4 V8) won't start. Turned over last night but wouldn't fire. Started fine this morning. Drove around, filled up with gas, drove home. Tried to restart about an hour later, once again it turns over but doesn't fire. I noticed the THEFT light blinks fast when I try to start, I don't remember it blinking like this. I checked the fuel cut-off swith and it was fine. I can't hear the fuel pump, but I'm not sure if this is normal. I taped on all of the relays, but I don't know which one is for the fuel pump since I don't have an owner's manuel. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Try cleaning the terminals with water/baking soda solution if you have a lot of build up. If you replace it put grease (any kind) on the posts when its replaced and it wont corrode.
Thanks DMoffroad,
But would the engine turn over if the battery was going dead? I tried cleaning the terminals just in case, still turns over but that's it.
look on the back of the intake manifold and there is a mototr there called an idle air control motor, I had mine replaced after it wouldn't stay running (had to keep my foot on the gas to keep it running) it cost about 150.00 through the dealership but I think you can get it cheaper through napa or somewhere else. it is easy to put on. otherwise take the intake hose off the box and have somebody start the truck and keep it running while you spray some fuel injector cleaner in it and it should help. after mine got replaced it idled real high because the control moter was getting stuck. it could be stuck in your case.
TGSPENCER,,,
How many miles on the truck and has the IAC Valve ever been replaced? They are notorious for going bad at about 50,000 miles. If you never replaced it, and your mileage is in that ballpark, I would replace it. Costs about $60 and an easy repair.
