Question rebuilt, replace or swap

Its my first time to the site. I own a 1990 f 150 2x4 with a 302 EFI thats going on its last leg. My question is should I rebuild it, replace it with the same engine from a donor truck, or try to swap with the explore v8, or newer 4.6 or 5.4 engine if the modifications are not to hard? This is my only ride. I'm willing to spent about 2,500 total. Please help?

rebuild it. it is like having a new motor so that is what i did. the newer motors will be too hard to mess with. you would have to swap all of the computors and mounts and tranny.

I agree with f100guy, would say drop a 351 shortblock in it and have the stock heads mildly ported, but that would require a 351 lower and upper intake, not sure if that would put you over budget, guess it depends on where you look and what the motor costs you. Might consider having the upper and lower cleaned and clean/replace the injectors, just to get your new engine off to a good start, either way you go. Just a thougtht, later
