I have a 460 In a 87 1 Ton Truck qnd lost the compression on No. 6 cilender, Is there a coman problem with the 460 that causes this
or should I just go ahead and pull the head and check It out.
Thanks
Tony
Done did that, all the valves are moveing, done a compression check and there Is no compression on no.6 cilinder, I hate to think what else could be wrong with it, I guess the next thing Is a hole In the Piston.
Thanks
Tony
get number 6 at TDC and thread an air fitting into the spark plug hole and put 100 psi of air to it. listen to where the air is leaking out from. that is where your compression is going.
if it is blowing out the oil cap- it is a ring or piston problem.
blowing out the exhaust- it is a valve or seat
same for blowing out the intake...
OK Guys
I did all everyone suggested, finely pulled the head, piston was not going up or down, pulled the engine then oil pan, rod was broke and the piston was in the upper part of the cylinder
the rod was still attached to the Crank and the other part was attached to the piston, the part that was attached to the crank had been going around and hitting the block, the cylinder Is scored In the lower part of the cylinder wall, can I still use this block, It Is not worn at all In the upper part of the cylinder, I believe that the ris pin tied up and heated up the rod and It broke, I would need to hone the bottom of the cylinder and rebuild the engine or should I look for another engine, I have found a 1973 460 but don't remember when unleaded gas first come out, can someone tell me If this engine have the hard seats
and If It would make an engine that would be dependable, It has 1 hundred thousand miles on it.
Thanks
Tony
