87 vs 95

87 vs 95
Are the blocks from a 302 out of a 87 van the same as the blocks from a 95 302 out of a truck. I'm trying to build a new motor and need a block to start from and found a good deal on one, provided that its the same.

it depends on the roller part. the truck 5.0's did not all have a roller cam. have you seen the 95 block. just go and look at it. is the 95 a bare block, if so look at the lifter valley and see if you see 2 threaded holes in the middle. not the big ones. if it has the little holes. then it is a roller block. do the same for the 87 but i don't think it has a roller cam unless it is in a mustang.

Most all blocks after 85 are cast for roller use even though they did not use roller cams. Just look for the casting bosses for the hold down in the valley. The only difference is that some of the early blocks do not have the knock sensor hole tapped in the back of the block as the early ones had the knock sensor in the intake.
