Manual Locking Hubs????

Hi I am new to this Forum. I recently bought a 95 f-150. A buddy of mine and I were talking the other day and he told me that with all manual hubs you have to back up 30ft to fully unlock them. I know some of the older vehicles you have to back up but do you have to do that with all manual hubs? I know this may sound stupid but I'm pretty new to this. Guess you gotta start somewhere. Just need some info...Thanks

Manual hubs are engaged when you turn the switch on the hub itself. It might take...3" to engage. Automatic locking hubs are the ones that take 10 feet to engage/disengage.

Just what Mustang said. You engage manuals for all practical purpose their already engage or disengaged when you turn the handle.
