It's been about a month since my last problem. Now comes another odd one. Recently, when i come to a complete stop, with my foot fully depressing the brake pedal the R.P.M.'s jump up to about 1500 and the damn thing wants to start going agian! After about a scond or two the R.P.M.'s drop back to normal and everything is fine! My first thought was that there was a damn ghost in the car with me, but when my buzz wore off i thought better of it. Any and all info would be greatly appreciated.
This has been a fairly common complaint with these engines. Mine has done it in the past, but not with any frequency and not in a very long time (knock, knock, knock). In all my research, I don't think I ever fully understood why this was happening. Some say throttle position sensor, others say stuck linkage and if I'm not mistaken somebody even mentioned some transmission sensor. Since mine hasn't done it in so long I've sorta quit worrying about it. When it did happen, it was kinda scary at a traffic light.
My X did the same thing about 2 weeks ago but up to 3500rpm! then within the week the tranny od /dtr light started flashing, at the time I thought it was the tps acting up and the tranny was a hole separate issue (PO782). I cleared the code and everythings been find so far (knock x3) Yours sounds like the TPS acting up (I had to replace mine in my 92 f250) youll know when/if to replace it cause it will start doing rpm fluctuations constantly (at least thats what my truck did-RPM up and down endlessly)
Does anyone know the tranny sensor mentioned in above post that could cause this ??? VSS? OSS? ???
