I've recently bought a '99 ranger with the 3.0 V6 and the automatic. It has about 32k miles on it. Beside the obvious routine maintenance and care, what else should I be doing besides what the owner’s manual tells me? Until I look closer at the motor, this thing could still the original spark plugs and wires.
At what point usually doe the average 3.0 need a complete tune-up?
After the usual stuff is done, I’d like to modify the truck some with a goal of getting more power out of the 3.0 motor.
Has there been any real testing done to check what power adders work well on the 3.0?
It's obvious a good quailty air filter and free flowing exhaust system is a must, but is there much available for 3.0 for bolt-ons?
FlexFuel- I own a '99 Ford Ranger XLT 3.0 V6. My truck has app. 150,000 km on it and I just recently did the plugs and wires on it. I've owned it since I drove it out of the lot with 8 km on it. Ford Dealership tells me it should have been done around 100,000. After doing the tune-up, she's running on 5 cylinders. I'm having some issues, think it could be a fuel-injector not performing properly. I also think I may have cat problems and a possible exhaust leak. I love her, but she's giving me a hard time. Anyway, keep in touch, love to hear how progress goes with your beauty.
