I had a new LUK clutch put in my 98 Ranger about a month ago, and already I'm having problems. About a week ago, after driving on the Freeway, it became hard to shift into any gears. I pulled over, shut it off, drove and it got better after a couple minutes. Well today, it became really hard to shift while driving through town. I was double clutching and speed matching to even get it into gear, so I pulled over and took it out of first (which was even hard to do). When I couldn't get it back into gear, I kept pumping the clutch and still wouldn't work. Only felt resistance at the bottom of the clutch pedal movement. Shut the truck down and restarted it, and still wouldn't go back into gear. Did this for about half an hour with no luck. If I shut the truck off, it would go into gear with some work. But when I started the truck with the clutch in, the truck would start moving forward right away, just wouldn't release the clutch.
Anyway, I called the shop that did the work (they warranty parts and labor for 12k miles), and they told me to have it towed in and they would look at it tomorrow (it was already 5pm). Called my stepdad to use his AAA, and when he got there, I started the truck to show him, and it went right into gear like normal. Now it shifted and drove fine. Okay, so I drove it down and dropped it off for the night. Can't figure out what the problem is, they replaced the slave cylinder with the clutch (or so they said), but it felt like it had failed, or had a bunch of air in the line. The clutch resevior is full and nothing is leaking. They are going to drive it around in the morning and see what happens, and bleed the clutch and everything again. Anyone have any idea what might be going on? Or maybe any suggestions of what I/they should check? It doesn't happen often, so I have a hard time believing that it's just air in the line. I'm starting to get really fed up as this is the second time this has happened and I'm starting to lose faith in the truck's reliability now.... Thanks for any help/advice,
