Wacky Guages
Ok, I have an 84 w 351. I rebuilt the motor about 8000 miles ago, just got the tranny rebuilt 2 weeks ago. Mechanicaly it is running great. But my temp guage and oil pressure guage are going crazy. The temp guage just seems to go back and forth between the N and L in normal. It seems that it stays cooler when I am stoped, I thought you were cooler when you were moving. Also it is telling me that I have better oil pressure when I am stopped than moving, I mean when I am going it almost hits the L, but there is no sound of lifter tick or the like,isn't this backwards too? Any help is greatly appreciatied.

With the oil pressure, I would install a manual guage to verify what the real pressure is. You might also consider checking where the wires from those guages pass throught the firewall and make sure that the insulation isn't broken and the wires are shorting out.

Thanks Bigric I will take a look at that. No it hasn't been doing it since the rebuild, it just started the other day. Plus I know I have the right one hooked up because I hooked the temp guage up about 2 weeks after the oil. Any other ideas.
