If you cut off the muffler from a stock exhaust and add a "Y" fitting with dual pipes comming out of the back, what effect does this have on gas milleage? I know in theory that the faster you remove the exhaust from the engine, the faster the combustion will occur but im not sure how drastically this will effect my fuel uconsumption. I would like to do this but i dont want to loose a huge amount of fuel efficiency. Also, how much horsepower if any will be added?

I'm not an expert on this but I'd figure adding a "Y" pipe wouldn't give you more than the look of two pipes out the rear end.
I say the engine wouldn't be effected by it because it's still choked by the narrow (single) pipe out.
You'd see a big difference with headers and duel pipes out
It will help a little by removing the restriction of the stock muffler. I used a single inlet/dual outlet Flowmaster muffler on mine with the tailpipes run out the rear with stainless tips. It sounds great, but isn't overly loud. It looks good too.
It may be a little loud without any muffler at all. A girl at work used to have a 2 wheel drive that someone had cut off the y pipe and ran straight pipes out on both sides just in front of the rear tires. It sounded good, but I think that my Flowmaster sounds better.
