Weird 4x4 Problem
Please Help. I have a 94 Bronco XLT 5.0, Auto Trans. I love this truck but the 4x4 is broken. It engages 4x4 fine (electric shift) and runs fine in 4x4 at all speeds, in all gears. But when I stop at a traffic light, it slips into neutral (the transfer case not the tranny). I hit the gas and nothing happens, no reverse no 1 or 2 gear. I then hit the 4x4 button to turn it off and it clunks back into 2wd. No other problems with 4x4, no noises or banging. Will never slip out when I am on the accelerating, only when coasting or stopped. Please help as I believe it may be an electrical problem (neutral sensor ar speed sensor), and I hoping it is not a mechanical issue. I want to rebuild the transfer case but don't know what is causing this.
(By the way, this is my American vehicle, first truck, first 4x4, first V8. Before this I have only had Jap cars, boy what a difference)

are your tires all the same size? i once had a ******* jeep and it did this and it turned out that the guy before me only replaced two tires instead of all four and as you drove the transfercase would work its way out of gear and into nuetrol.

Thanks, all of the tires are the same size but the right front is worn on the outside edge. I have also noticed that when shifting the 4x4 from low to high it will disengage the same way (neutral) accompanied by a ticking sound from the transfer case. I will replace the fluid and let you know how it turns out.
