1983 Ford Econoline F350 w/ 460 cid engine.
The wiring harness portion that goes ove the top of the engine has two spade type connectors that are not connected to anything and apparently have nothing to connect too. This is in the same place where the wire for the carburetor choke is taken off. Does anyone know what they might be for, and how I would check to see if the choke wire has any voltage.
Thank you
The choke wire should be white/black, and is hooked to the back of the alternator to the sta terminal. There should be around 8 volts on it with the engine running. What are the colors of the other mystery wires?
Do you have an aftermarket carb(Holley, Edelbrock, etc.)? An aftermarket carb would take a full 12v from the keyswitch to the choke. The only other thing I can think of that would take 12 volts around the carb area (the other wire) would be a anti-dieseling solenoid. This would be a coil mounted where the throttle linkage is. It extends when running, and sets the idle speed. It retracts when you turn the key off, closing the carb all the way to keep the engine from "running on" on a hot day. If you have a different carb, it may not have this feature.
