i would think that if the booster was bad the engine would not run correctly because there would be a vacumn leak. do you have a hard to press pedal. what are your symtoms to make you think the booster may be bad? need more info please.
i have a loud humm coming from that general area, if i turn the engine off while driving and try to stop i don't notice a big diff.
it doesn't stop bad, BUT the big thing is the humming (and i would like to have a little more stopping power)
i believe that where the vacumumn hose attaches to the booster that fitting or coupling is also a one way valve. it sounds like you may have a bad valve there and the little reed inside is vibrating. why dont you remove the vac hose and plug it up and start the engine, DO NOT DRIVE IT because your brakes will really be hard to press down. if your noise goes away try to take out the coupling and put that on the end of the vac hose and see if the noise comes back.
my bronco stops but it is no four wheel disc kind of stop, i dont think that i could lock up the brakes if i had to but i never tried.
hope this info helps a little and i would be interested to know what you finally make of it
