I have pictures of a HD front bumper on my truck with a very stout front reciever (no reciever mounted winch yet, although i do want to make one) and a winch could drfinently be stored in the Weatherguard crossover toolbox i have. Just check my gallery...
thanks - those pictues are good looking. And, that winch front end looks like you have been pulling some stumps. I thought with the recovery rings on the bumper the hook was a little over the top but it does seem to have the advantage of just dropping the recovery strap over the hook and backing up.
There are a couple of ways I can think of to deal with the winch issue. Realistically, I'm not tooling up for a trip across the Serigetti but my idea of a truck is a TRUCK writ large! I like the idea of a winch on it - I guess it's the little boy in me still playing Tonka or Army, even after 26 years of being in uniform. Besides, without a truck right now I have the luxury of dealing in the planning phase for the next one.
If I do mount the winch on the front I'll screw my license plate to four of those flashlight mounting clips you get at Big Box and snap the plate onto the fairlead rollers. I spotted that idea somewhere not long ago.
I forgot about my old black truck in my gallery. I made that bumper and it needed to be further reinforced to hold a heavy vertical load. The D rings allowed me to use a ****** block and run the winch cable back to the bumper no problem. And it was really nice to have a hook incorperated with my license plate mounting. Came off when i needed to winch and was there for a quick recovery if needed. The reciever on the front of my red dually is what i was talking about when i said it was stout. The bumper is made by Ranch Hand i think and is very well built. I have thought about adding the D rings to that bumper too because the one time you need them, its very worth while to have them on there.
