If cost wasn't a factor, what's the best 285s for a stock f 250? 4x4. Alot of road miles. I don't do much four wheeling except when weather requires it. I realize this is a very opinioned question but this may be last time I can buy new tires for a while and would like to hear from the crew what they think. Michelin A/T? Thanks again,
B
I purchased Michelin LTX/AT's for my last three trucks, I was very satisfied with them. All my driving is on the highway. They have little or no road noise and do very well in the rain and snow. They also wear like steel, providing that you do regular rotations. My tires looked like new even after 40k miles of wear. The only negative is the price, about $170 per tire for 285's. If you can afford them, buy them, you will not be sorry.
I may be wrong, but I think you can also get a 285 in a Michelin M/S tire that might be a little cheaper than the LTX/AT. I could only say good about the latter, I never had the M/S tire.
I've been running the Mich LTX/AT's.
(My chip ruined the originals,hahaha)
When first installed, the truck tended to sway in the corners like they had weak sidewalls or something. As the miles got racked up, or I became conditioned, the truck stopped the swaying motion. Pretty weird.
Another PSD owner told me that his Mich LTX's took about a thousand miles before they "firmed" up, I thought he was nuts but that's what seemd to happen with my set. Go figure?
I got the Cooper "Discoverer" about twenty thousand ago and have no complaints . They are quiet and wear great . I can forsee 45 to 50 thousand miles if everything stays the same . I keep the air pressure at 53 psi and rotate every 5 thousand miles . The cost of mounting and balancing (lifetime) was 512.00 out the door .
Bridgestone Dueler Revos are rated excellent (4 ¾ star rating, 5 is the best) . I purchased 4 Yokahama Geolanders (Rated 4 ½) and saved the extra $100.00 for the wife’s Elk hunt. BFG’s rated very, very low, 2 1/2, however they do have a lot of brand loyalty and a triple thick side wall for the hard core off road’er. Just my thoughts…( No disrespect intended for the BFG owners posting on the board)
