What gears, which lockers?

A 5.4 with 4.10s from factory, and I have 37 inch tires. I could use a lower gear. I'd like something to put me back where I was, maybe a little more. Any thoughts?

Also, I'm looking at ARB and Detroit. Both are proven, and if Detroit hadn't come out with the 'Electrak' (think that's right) I would go with the ARB, but now I'm not sure. Has anyone tried the new electric lokcing Detroits out?

Thanks!

For what gear ratio to go with you can go to the calculators at Randy's Ring and Pinion and plug in different gear ratios to see the change of RPMs at a given speed.......I usually type in 60mph. Be sure to use actual tire size, not what is listed on the sidewall. For the stock size I generally use 31.6" and then check the manufacturer's specs to see what the 37" tires you have actually measure...most are 36.7".

If you had 4.10s stock then 4.88s would put you about as close as possible to the same effective gear ratio. If you wanted a lower gear you could go to 5.13s.

I plan on ordering an ARB (or two) myself. I have no experience with the Detroit Electrac and I don't no anyone who has tried one yet. The only thing that I don't like, from looking at it is how the solenoid mounts on the diff cover.

Hope this helps.

While you could probably get by with 4.56s, I would think that 4.88s would be ideal.
What configuration do you have? CCLB or a regular?
5.13s would be way too low for highway use.

I don't know where you live, but I have heard of problems with ARBS in cold weather.

4.88's do sound like the way to go I think, I don't think I will ever go with tires larger than current. Indiana gets pretty cold, I haven't heard of the problems associated with the temp. Is it from moisture getting in the air lines and freezing?

Thanks for the input!

Rear detroit is the logical answer. front arb or lock right..
I am suprised with the lockright up front it works real well no steering problems.....and minimal price
