Would you be kind enough to tell me the proper carburetor for my Ford
chassis motorhome w/ a 460 cid engine and an automatic transmission.
Thank you very much,
John Callahan
any parts store should be able to get you a suitable replacement or a rebuild kit based on the numbers you pull off your carb, and the year of the chassis.
Look on the air horn and you will find ALL the numbers, You didn't say what year your motorhome was. My guess is you have a Holley 4180, this carb is a very good carb, it runs a dual stage power valve, probably #612 jets, its one draw back is if it is a pre-92 it has NO power valve protection making it easy to blow power valves, CENTREX makes a power valve protection for $12.00 to your front door and it can be installed without taking carb apart. If it is a 4180 Holley and you decide to toss it out let me know.
Oh, a couple of other things, if it is the stock HOLLEY it is a 600CFM. If you are going to rebuild it you will need the motorcraft # which is your tag number. If you are going to change carbs and are wondering what CFMs to get, I can share with you when I did some mods to mine I had a clear vision as to where I was going in the long term I contacted HOLLEY techs. and layed out what I was tring to do and they told me to stay with the 600CFM. That is also an ave. Probably more info than you wanted.
Thanks for your response kermmydog. I have the Motorcraft number, it is E3TE R2. Ive got to try to see if I can get the numbers on the horn. The air cleaner is hard up against the under side of the dash - windshield, and its very hard to see up in under there ( I know I have to take the air cleaner out) Thanks again
