Here is the story, 91 F350 7.3 diesel customer brings me truck says head gaskets are leaking (overheating, compression in the radiator) pull the heads find the #4 pre combustion chamber plug thingy in the head for the glowplug completely gone and the head gasket burnt out at this point! But I cant find where the compression would be getting in to the cooling system to cause it to over heat.
I realize that that cyl. was dead but there is no indication anywhere of the head gaskets loosing water but I found some rust on the valves of the rear left cyl and some residual water so my question is how can you tell if there is a pinhole in the cyl. never seen one is it plain to see or does it have to be magnafluxed to find them. any help would be appreciated
Where I usually find the hole is at 12 o' clock with the piston all the way down. The only way to find it is to put a test plate on and pump it up, then look for the little pencil stream coming out. After you find it you'll say, "yeah, that looks like a hole".
The precup was completely gone huh? Havent seen that one yet. Was that on the same hole?
Nah it was on a different hole the heads looked like they have been off before and I am sure somebody put the head on with the cup missing. Well I dont have a way to cap it off and pump it up so I will have to look harder at the heads and gasket hopefully I can find a crack I missed.
