Standard answer is 29X9.5 inch (aka 235/75R15). That's what I have on my '87, and I get a little rubbing. Some manage to get 30's under, just depends on the individual vehicle.

When I first got my '85 it had 255/75/15s on it. They rubbed at the extreme turn of the steering wheel. Now I have 235/75/15s and I'm not getting any rubbing. This is with the stock suspension.

30-9.50 R15 can work with the right wheel combination. If your not, sure measure your minimum clearences.
