Im getting ready to go on a trip to NV from OK and i have not used my front tank in about 2 months and i was thinking about the fuel thats been there for that time its about 27 deg. outside now and i was thinking of just adding some additve to the fuel and fill it up but am cased about the fuel will it be ok or will it do damage to my truck theres very littel in it like below 1/8 of a tank will it be ok or will i need to empty first.
DM,
I can't imagine any difficulty with 2 month old fuel. If you're concerned with it gelling, add an additive and then top the tank with winter fuel. Most 300 gallon fuel tanks farmers have for their farm use sets much longer then 2 months!! I've started old diesel engines with fuel setting in tanks for over 3 years.
Last summer bought a 930 Case that had been setting 3 years 'cause it died in the hay field and drug to its resting place. After some basic maintence, added 5 gallons of diesel and drove it 18 miles with no trouble. The Perkins engine in a Massey combine will do the same thing.
I see you're in NV, but in cold climates it's better to leave the fuel tanks topped with fuel so there is less condensation.
