I just got a 1985 Ford F-150 about a month and a half ago. The truck runs normal and the heater works great. The only question I had is why my temperature gauge only goes up to the very bottom of normal. It just makes it to the left normal line. Is this normal? Just wondering. Thanks!
That is identical to my 84 F-250 with 351W that I've had a couple of months now. I've replaced the water pump and thermostat and had the radiator boiled and rodded. Bought a new temp. switch today. I think I'll let it warm up a bit before I replace it. I'll let you know if that corrects the guage problem.
Thought I'd update you. This morning before going to work I took the connector off the temp switch and had a look at it. It was nasty with corrosion. Ran it up and down a few times on the post and fooled with the wire. Temp gauge now goes to the high side of N on normal and occasionally up to the O in normal. When I got to work, I raised the hood and popped the radiator cap. I had good pressure, and I'm not sure I've had that much pressure before.
You might checkyour connection and see if you get the same result. I'm thinking also, that my new radiator cap might have finally "wore" in and seated good. Make sure you have good pressure at normal temp.
Still plan to change the temp. switch when the weather warms a bit, and might get rid of the press on connector and add one with a nut. Good luck!
