84 B2 with 86 Ranger
I have a wrecked 86 Ranger with a 2.9 V6 and auto tranny. I have an opportunity to pick up an 84 Bronco II with a blown 2.?? V6 and a 4-speed manual 4x4. Can I just drop in my V6, or is it easier to rebuild the 2.?? Also, can I convert a 4-speed manual 4x4 to an automatic 4x4 using my Ranger's auto tranny? I like the idea of 4x4, but I don't really "need" it. I really want the automatic though.

You can bolt the 2.9 in place of the 2.8 that is in there now. However, since the 2.8 is carburated, you will need the fuletank, lines from an 86 or newer bronco II, and will need the 2.9 computer and harness. The auto in your 86 is the A4LD, which is known for premature failure. The toyo kogyo 4 speed in your bronco is known for being fairly problem free.
