Water based paints?
Has anyone here ever used the new(er) water based paints?
I have been looking at the auto air colors website, and the stuff looks like it would be real easy to use?
My biggest question is: are looks deceiving? is it really harder to use,and how do the product last in the real world?
The paint is put on first and then covered with a urethane clear coat. Seems like it would last a while with the clear coat on top.
Any Help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Jim
They want alot of CFM to be laid on properly. Take forever to dry enough to put the clear ontop of. And if the waterbased base isnt totally dry then the urethane has a tendancy to "eat" into it. Some sort of chemical reaction takes place.
What kind of paint do you usually use? Don't have a lot of money, and the thoughts of paying someone to do it isn't too appealing.
I'm a first time painter,so I'm trying to get as much info so I get it close to right the first time. any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
I suspect they would not have gone that route if not for the EPA.

I looked into it a while back - search for posts on AAC...& you'll find more info.

It is what I was brought up using, and its what I know. Waterbased paints were tried on a couple of my murals, they might be different on a all over paint job, or something bigger than a small part of a hood or deck lid.
