Hey got a couple questions for yall.
2002 Ranger XLT
4.0 4x4 x-cab
7000 miles
This weekend the truck encountered it first snow. And from the sounds it made I think it didn't like it. When I started driving there was a uncanny horrible squeling from the front end? It did this all weekend with no notticiable rhyme or reason.
In an attempt to stop sundenlly the brake pedal felt like it was on a chesse grater the way it was shaking and grinding?
At a mid range, meduim-hard punch on the gas the check engine light will flash for a while then stop?
Horn now sounds like my moms Hyundia Santa Fe(ricer)?
Most all of these problems happen whenever they dem fit to, no consistency in occasions.
Any ideas on these problem, please help, love the truck it is my second ranger. Just trying to figure out what is wrong with her.
Make a list of the problems/concerns then schedule a visit with the service department at your dealer; it lookes to me like it's under warranty. Make sure you tell them that you need a service loaner so you're not stranded but be aware that this could lengthen the time between now and the appointment date.
The squealing sounds like the axle (excluder?) seals in the front end. Pretty common with with the 98-00 with PVH, also did this on my stepdad's 98 Explorer with AWD. The dealership replaced the excluder seals and his noise went away. I use 4x4 more often now, and the noise seldom comes back, although I noticed it today when I was playing in the snow. The braking issue was probably just the anti-lock brakes kicking in. As for the the check engine light, you should probably have the codes pulled from the computer and see if it's been storing the code, to find out why the computer is unhappy. Autozone will pull codes for free. But if you're under warranty, take it back to the dealer and make them fix it, and have them tell you what they did to fix the problems. With my experience, I couldn't get the front end to squeal for the dealership, so they never would try to do anything about it. Don't know what to tell you about the horn, maybe it's not getting enough power? Good luck,
