I am sure there are a lot of you out there cutting your tires, so let me know what brand of tool you are using or what brand you would recommend. Aside from jumping you up a class or two in bogs, are there any other drawbacks you have experienced?
for cutting tires, such as cutting th elittle lugs out of boggers....take an old long sawzall blade and grind the teeth off and sharpen it so it looks like a knife, turn your sawzall wide open and go at it, once the blade gets hot it cut slike butter
We have been running used humvee tires ($75 ea for a 36" tire) and have got a good supply so I am no too worried about ruining them. I will try it out and see. I have looked into grooving irons, but the good ones are expensive! $400 is the cheapest I have found, and that is through with my good guy discount.

THREAD HI-JACK
where you get them tires for $75 a piece? I may have to do some business with you
We get them from a used tire store -- the last time we bought 20 in one shot. We fit them all in the back of one pickup -- if that didn't look like white trash I don't what would!! They are bias ply, which isn't a huge deal. Like any 16.5 tire, they like to pop off of the bead, so I put tubes in mine and have been running them @10 psi -- no problems yet.
well i'm running 16's with bias ply right now....you let me know if you ever wanna get a set off your hands i would be glad to compensate you for your time and effort
Ho steered you straight on the approach, but I just wanted to warn you that sometimes this will jump up more than "a class or two" if you compete. In all of the competitions I've ran in Oregon, cut tires automatically place you in the "open class". You know, with the 1000hp alcohol nitrous engines stuffed into sand rails.
That said, there is not down side to cut tires for off-roading. You don't know what a mud tire is untill you've run a cut Bogger.

other than the inconvience of not being able to run them on the road...Ho' asked me today if he could trailer his truck over to my house so he can try out the cut boggers, lol
I am currently working on another group purchase, but this time we are going after tht 37" Goodyear radials. We have him at 125 ea. for 60 - 75% tread, but I think we can get down to $100. I don't know what shipping would be to where you are at -- that could jump the cost quite a little. Check Ebay; I have seen them on there before.

He is buying them in lots from the military at DRMO auctions. If you can afford to buy huge quantities, then it's a great way to go. Once all the troops get back from kicking Saddam's ***, there should be an influx of more tires as they swap 'em out and put new ones on.
I just checked Ebay motors -- look up hummer tires. There are several sets of both styles fairly cheap right now, but shipping will be roughly $130 it looks like. Good luck.
