my moms aerostar borke on her today. the check oil light was on when she went to start it she tells me it didnt come on when driving so she topped off the oil. it cranks at 1500rpms like always. (thats too fast if you ask me) but it will not start. i tried using throttle body cleaner adn that did nto work this tell sme it isnt a fuel problem. its in a parking lot and i didnt have the proper tools with me to verify that it had spark but im asumign it does not. now the kicker. with the key on the oil pressure gauge flashes with 1 bar and it beeps at me. i tried disconnecting the ground cable from the battery for 15 seconds and it still did the same thing so i left it disconnected for a longer period of time like 5 minutes and now the gauge doesnt beep or flash anymore. is there something that still stops it from starting when the senses low oil/pressure?
Do you hear the fuel_pump when you turn the key to run?? If not, try giving the fuel tank a good whack with your hand & see if that gets it going. If theres no spark a good guess would be a bad ignition module.
With my 90 the check oil light on means that it is time to add some oil. I have a seperate oil presure "gauge" which is really just an idiot light wired up to look like a gauge. The check oil light does not prevent starting, and I find it hard to believe that low oil presure would prevent starting either.
I don't have any experience with a digital dash, but once I did have my van die (would not start). Checked everything including the spark. Turns out it was the ignition module that attaches to the distributor, seems it is a common problem for that engine. You might look at that if it is a 3.0 with a distributor.
Well,I have the same problem, The Van 88 run normal and suddenly quit. Try to crank, the engine turn but no run.Spray some starting fluid,no go.I disconnect the ing.coil from carb and test park, no park at all. Go to junk yard get TFI module replace and back to the road in minute.Remember put some dielectric grease in the back of TFI and when take TFI off pull it down or you will bend the pin.
In manual guide tell me check spark if no spark replace TFI module.Good luck
