On Star ?
"I am not the type of person who wraps himself in tinfoil to keep "those signals" the government sends out to control the minds of citizens, but I can see where this is going."
I understand where you are coming from and feel the same. However, guys like us can still have the best of both worlds. A well placed toggle switch in the power supply can fix that little tracking problem.

Well as technology continues to increase, it will just be a matter of time before the government knows that you switched that toggle switch.
Honestly people I don't want to sound paranoid, but I believe it will be a matter of time (10-20 years) before this technology will be mandated for ALL (new or old) vehicles the way this country is headed.
I must go now... it has been two hours since the last time I wrapped my head in tinfoil... must keep those government signals out.

Onstar subscription is like $50 a month, my aunt bought a Pontiac last year, and it has it, but the free subscription ran out after 3 months and it was like $48.95 a month to continue it. I'd rather just pay AAA or somebody instead.
I have Onstar in my Impala LS, it is $17.00 per month. It's really a nice option and you can't beat the 'hands free' phone. You don't even have to dial, just tell it who you want to call and it does the rest. Wish my Ranger had it.
As far as Big Brother goes, on any vehical with OBDII, the Tech. can download information on how many times you drive WOT (wide open throttle) what top speeds you've driven the vehical and even if you drive with your left foot on the brake. So the Dealer can tell if you have been abusing the vehical and may not be legally obligated to honor the warranty!

I think you have been misinformed on the OBD2. I haven't seen one that can do that yet. As for the POS phone, my mom has one of those and half the time it won't recognize her voice. The other half, it gets it wrong. She will tell it to call home and it will call my sister. This is nothing like the OBD2, someone now can look you up with the satellites and find exactly where your car is, what it is doing and even turn it off if they like, can the tech do that? It won't be long and it will transmit to your state when you speed or something and automatically mail you a ticket.

No, I am right about the OBD II, just ask your local certified Tech. As far as the Phone, I have NONE of the problems you describe. It has nothing to do with 'voice' recognition, it will respond to anybody's voice command, if you speak clearly and have your 'name tags' programmed correctly.
Onstar can Locate your car, unlock your doors, and read your engine codes should one pop up.
You're being overly paranoid, no one is out to get you, relax.

Red...I am my local certified tech. The phone is garbage. At least, the one in my moms car is. She speaks in a clear voice yet when she says call home, it rings my sisters house. When she gives it numbers and it reads them back, they are all wrong.
We live in an information world now. Do you really believe that nobody is out there selling info like where you shop and where you buy gas and....I'll bet you use those "club saver" cards at the grocery stores too. They know more about you than you do. Scary thought, isn't it?

Obviously there is a problem with the unit, take it back to the Dealer and have a 'Certified Wrench Puller'
that knows how to repair these units, fix it.

Like I said before, if you really feel that way dont buy it. Also I dont think its standard and if not you can opt to not have it at all. Also it lowers your auto insurance(just pointing it out)

I'm sure the better theif rings already no how to take advantage of it and use it to there advantage. I use my own GPS units for mapping anyway.
DMV does track you! They want to know where you park it.
i doubt car theft rings can use it to advantage, its LO/JACK, they will locate you within six feet in a matter of seconds, I could see it being a very useful law enforcement tool in a lot of criminal situations, like high speed chases, carjackings, car thefts, bank robberies etc etc.
A lot of cars get trashed and stripped real quick so I dont know that it would be 100 percent effective but it could sure slow things down and lower insurance rates
I know of one instance in Milwaukee where some idiot couple met with a realator to look at a vacant house, they tied her up robbed her and took her car, car was located shortly after she was found unfortunatley the people were no longer in the car........Milwaukee is a complete *****hole may i add, there are shootings and violence every night on the black side i mean northside
OBD2 does record everything you do, you claim to be a tech, but have obviously never used a real obd2 engine/powertrain tester, if you have you would know it asks you to depress the brake and it shows you on the display that the signal is confirmed......along with many other basic functions like depressing the clutch, turning the a/c on, etc i like the injector buzz test myself
