Besides the fact that it's illeagle and it will void the warranty, What actually happens mechanically to the truck when the converter is removed? How does it effect the system? Inquiring minds want to know!--Thanks

The converter cleans the exhaust and also reports through sensors to the computer how good a job the engine is doing burning fuel, the computer takes this info and uses it to determine whether to enrichen or lean the fuel mixture.

Thanks for the quick reply emtabmm, I was wondering how it would affect a diesel. I knew someone with a gas burner a few years back, that took off their converter, and the check engine light stayed on because they didn't have the oxygen sensors reinstalled.Although they claimed it ran better. The diesels don't have the oxygen sensors inline(yet). So I was wondering how it could read back to the computer.

My truck has been in shop twice, once for blown inter cooler and they reflashed computer 1st time [didnt ask for that, truck ran fine] 2nd tine for lost power and bad gas mileage. i have 4inch exhaust no cat, they never said anything at dealer about voiding anything?

Mine runs better without it, Also spools up quicker. BTW, I saw the intake manifold of a 6.0 the other day. 12,000 miles and had enough soot you could scratch your name in the ports!!!! EGR,, What a great idea on a diesel!!! the 6.0 will be lucky to go 200K miles!!!!

My questions to you did you test and know for a fact it is faster or is this “feel” from the seat of your pants. It is normal for a person to “feel” a performance gain if we spend time and money to make a change. I know I have sworn that if I spend money it will go faster.

Did you do any dyno pulls before and after.

emtabmm,

Back to the question of warranty, I thought only the 7.3 had the 100,000 mile? I had seen Ford brochures that showed both the 7.3 and 6.0 but only mentioned the 100K on the 7.3...my dealer didn't even know if it applied to the 6.0 (needless to say, I don't go there for my service).
