OK, my 86 F350 Dually is in pretty darn good shape for it's age...*****pt for the bed. It's pretty much done. Stake holes are have cracks, tailgate is bent, and one side of the bed is loose (whole thing moves about an inch at the top when shaken). Oh, and there's a hole where a 5th wheel used to be...
So, I'm looking at getting it replaced with something a bit less...used. Long term goal is to rhino-line the new bed and put a shell on it. I'll be bumper-towing a travel-trailer.
I'm pretty sure that 80-86 boxes are all the same, but what about 87-97 F350 dually boxes? Anyone tried to swap these onto an older frame?
I'm planning on getting the beast painted soon, so color won't be a problem...and as long as the body lines all work on the newer beds, it shouldn't even make a difference after it's all the same color.
i know my 86 f150 has a newer bed on it im thinking its from like a 90-95 style truck. looks sharp itys ashame its so dented. id like to find a new one.
Good post by ecarter50, the lines do match perfectly from a 80-86 cab to a 87-97 bed. I bought an 84 with a 94 bed on it. When they put the lower chrome trim on, it almost perfectly hid the differance between the body lines around the wheel wells. No one has yet to point out that the bed isn't correct for year of truck. Without the chrome the differance is noticeable to a point, but not near as noticeable as big rust holes and dents.
Thanks for the great info and pics! What is different around the wheelwells? I'm looking at those pics and seeing some difference, but I'm assuming that there's some trim that goes there?
