86' Ranger>Running rough

A friend has a 86' ford ranger w/ a 2.9L,5-speed,a/c,no power opts,and a bedliner.It's got around 243,000.2 questions.....When your driving,and you push the clutch in it revs really high.Then back down.What could it be???2nd question....What kinda price would this truck sell for?The only thing wrong w/ this is the first question and the clear coat on the hood.Any help will be greatly appriciated.Thanx

In so Cal I bought a 2.3l M/T for $500 running and needed alot of work. Is the transmission slipping?

no..I don't think it's the tranny.It doesn't slip.This truck is pretty much like new other than this problem and the clearcoat

I would try cleaning the idle control valve, middle of the intake manifold, passengers side.
