extension housing

I was finally able to locate an extension housing from jeffs bronco graveyard. I got it for 96 dollars. My old extension housing on my 78 F-100 has a borken ear on it, so the entire transmission twists. What is all involved in changing this. To me it looks like it disconnect it from the tranny, disconnect the transfercase linkage, take the bolt out of the remaining ear which bolts to the mount, then pull the transfercase and extension housing, the drivshaft should come off. Now is where it extends beyond my knowledge. Is there fluid of anysort traveling in the extension housing? Do i need any gaskets? Do i just pull it off and change it, or is it not that simple?

I don't know for 100% sure on all. I do know that the extension housing (tailshaft) is filled with the same oil as in the transmission and it should just unbolt and bolt on, sliding over the output shaft. Parts store like NAPA would know about a gasket if there was one.

What kind of transmission is it?

Bump for someone who knows more...
