460 gas mileage?

I may not be in the right forum.........but.......I am looking to get an F350 or F250 4X4 with a 460. What kind of mileage should I expect? I would prefer a 95-97 model.

Thanks!

Baby it? Not really sure I could do that. I take care of my vehicles but I do not drive like my Grandma.
I was hoping for a little better. I had warmed over 460 in a 68 F100 and I got 9-11 in town and 14-15 on the highway. I actually obtained 18mpg once but I drove exactly 55mph for a long distance. The truck had a C-6 auto and 3:55 gears.

I would of thought that the fuel injected motor would have run better.

Thanks for your input!

TrueBlue,

Yep, don't go thinkin' you're gonna do much better than the 8-12mpg with the 460. Plan on the 10-12 range and if you do better, then it's a welcome suprise and gravy!

Just being realistic with ya...

My truck is getting anywhere from 11-14mpg depending on how much I stick my foot in the throttle. Almost all driving is on county roads with occassional stop signs.

You answered your own question and I think you could expect that kind of mileage because a fishing partner of mine got over 12mpg towing a small aluminum boat. He has a 97 F-250 with the 460, manual trans and 3:55 gears. He says he gets close to 15mpg at 65mph emptly, about the same as my V10. Hope that helps.

11 mpg at best in my truck...1996 F250 4x4, 460 CI, supercab, long bed, 4.10 gears, E4OD tranny...can't wait to see what the milage drops to this summer pulling a 4,000 lb boat!

Mine gets from 9-14 and I have 3.55's. Usually its around 10 because there are 8 stop signs and lights between here and school. But when I open er up on the highway, usually I can see 12-13, and I have hit 14, once.

Shabah222, I know where Wytheville is, I've travelled through there a few times going to West Virginia rafting. I've also hiked that trail from Galax to Pulaski, I've spent a decent amount of time in that vicinity.

It's a small world MW95F250.....I bicycle that trail quite frequently in the spring and fall. There's a good chance we've passed each other either on the trail or on the interstate..

Its been about a year since I've hiked that trail. It was the Fries branch, too, so that wasn't part of the main trail, but the year before (in October, I believe) I did bike the whole 52 miles plus the Fries branch in a little under 5 hours (BSA says has to be completed in under 8). I had a brand new Huffy, and the pedals fell off right about the shot tower, luckily, there was a bike shop about a 1/2 mile from the trail, and the man there went to his bicycle "junkyard" and pulled a whole set of sprockets and pedals and installed them for me for free, since the bike was under warranty. I took that thing back to Wal-Mart and got a Mongoose, its a good quality bike, just the seat is so uncomfortable I can't bear to ride it more than 10 minutes.

I've never biked the whole trail, I always had someone with me that wasn't up to the challenge. Send me an email sometime when you plan on being in the area and we will go hit the trail...

My email is shabah222@hotmail.com...my name is Rob
