I don't have a dynomax on my 4.2, but I had one on my 2.5 Ranger. It sounded okay , quiet at idle, with a little roar if you stood on it. I currently have a flowmaster dual chamber, single in/dual out, turned out in front of the rear tire, it rumbles real nice, and some decel burble too. I didn't lose anything on the bottom end , at least according to my bottom end, and it revs a lot more freely now. Hope that helps..
