I have a 78 F150 4x4 with a 400 and already have Flowtech headers. I dont like the way these come out, They get too close to the trans crossmember. Does any company make shorty headers or ones that come out in a better spot. My other option is to put the stock manifolds back on and make myself a new exhaust, which I dont like the 2" I have on there anyway(to rappy) and gonna swap it for 2 1/4. Am I really gaining much with these headers anyway?? My new 400 will be going in soon with the Edelbrock Performer package if that makes a difference.
Thanks in advance.
P.S. If I put this in the wrong place could someone please move it. Thanks.

I just put a set of hedman fender-well hedders on my 79 f-150 351m/400 4wd and they clear everything.
The part number is 89360 on jegs they run about $170 plus shipping.
If you want a loud truck bolt on some purple horny hedder mufflers. Louad and Nice
I run the regular Heddmans that exit inside the frame on my 78 F250 with a 400. From looking at your post I would say that the collectors terminate quite a bit farther forward than yours do. I am able to run 2 1/2 inch exhaust out of each and even a couple 90 degree bends so the driver side pipe crosses over to the passenger side between the back of the oil pan and the tranny (under the bellhousing). Then I run the pipes straight back into two flowmasters and out the rear right side shotgun style.
I know that you can get many different headers for that truck. I have a 460 in my truck and i dont really want to spend $400 on
L&L headers yet. I got manifolds and 2 1/2 dual exhaust with 40 series flowmasters original flows and the truck is pretty loud, especially going up a hill with a load. it is not realy that raspy. i had a 400m in the truck when i got it, and it had single 2 1/4 with a cherry bomb glasspack, and it wasnt very loud.
