charging system

i need a professional opinion. i have a 1985 f-150 300-6 4x4. i put a brand new alternator and voltage regulator in it and the voltage regulator keeps frying. i wired it to the repair manual specifications. the positive terminal goes to the starer regulator, from there, it goes to the battery terminal on the alternator and the ignition terminal on the voltage regulator. the feild terminal on the alternator goes to the feild terminal on the voltage regulator. the stator terminal on the alternator goes to the electric choke, but i dont have an electric choke, so it goes nowhere. and the wire to the ammeter goes to the stator terminal on the voltage regulator. thats all according to my manual, but it frys my voltage regulator the second i put the battery clamps back on the battery. i replace the old wires. now im lost.

ok no choke do this. the field alt wire goes to the f connector on the regulator. the stator alt wire goes to the s position on the regulator. the i teminal on the regulator goes to the ignition switch, and the batt terminal goes to the hot side(12v all the time) solenoid. that should fix you up..
