ford explorer 92 4x4 auto electic switch does nothig help

my electric switch to put my ford explorer into 4 wheel drive does nothing when pushed ,but only two weeks ago, it called for snow and i tested it and it was fine then now it wont do a thing when pushed no light to indicate its on nothing ,,any ideas what to check first?

Search for how to posts on cleaning the shift motor. Not hard. The drying out of the motor bearings is major problem but others focus on brushes and contacts.
