DS59F100 about your XE268H cam........

TorqueKing, I used a vacuum can for a gm distributor on mine to make it adjustable. I can't remeber which one though. It's either the points type or the HEI type. One is longer than the other. Do a search and you should find it. Works like a charm as far as adjusting vacuum advance.
JWTaylor, I can't say I saw any difference but I've since put on a Street Avenger 670 and mileage dropped to 11 so I've got a whole new can of worms to play with. Got a pretty good stumble just as I crack the throttle.

I don't know JW. I've put the Street Avenger back on today and have been tuning. I hate leaving that nice, shiney carb sitting on the shelf. Took everything back to stock on it and started over. Got it running pretty good with an arange pump cam and 67 primary jets and 70 secondary jets.
It still has a very slight roughness right as I tip in the throttle while in overdrive and cruising around. I think I can get that worked out of it with the pump adjustment.
The first attempt I ended up with 72 front and back plus the light yellow spring in the vacuum ca.
I put the purple in the can this time and it helped some. Must have been pulling in alittle sec. sometimes.
I think I'm gonna whip it this time.

Also, the Street Avenger is wet flow tested and is supposed to be a carb to just bolt on and go. Don't bet on it. Holley tech line said that they run so lean that I may have to jet it up as high as 74 front and back. I wonder how they can say they get better mpg like that?
JWTaylor, I noticed you were asking about exhaust notes earlier in this thread.
I put my flowmasters on before I did my cam change. To me at the time I thought the flows were a little too quiet. I put the extreme 4x4 cam in and was blown away by how much loader my exhaust was. All because of a different cam. I knew it had an effect but I did'nt realize how much.

Thanks for the info 71swissaqua, does your cam have a lope to it? And at what rpm does it idle? I wasn't too sure about the 4X4 cams. Maybe I should start a company and lean out the carbs and sell them as street mpg carbs, as well. Would you say the avenger carb is a better design or a modified version of any other holley? later, good to hear you almost have it set up

It has a very mild lope if any really. I'm like you I love to hear an engine lope. I saw where Compcams has a line of nostalge (sp) cams for the sound of the 60's musclecars. Maybe that's worth looking into. I was looking for more lope but did'nt want to over cam my engine just for the sound.
As far as the Street Avenger goes, I don't really have alot to say good about it. I just can't get it to run as good as my plain old 600 Holley vac. sec.
It is a pretty carb though but pretty don't run. lol
I've changed jets and acc. cams till I was blue in the face and I just can't get the flat spot to go away.
It's now for sale. If I ever get to changing carbs again I'm going with the Demons

Where did you get the carb from? Can you send it back, it is faulty, given it should perform better or as good as the older one? Who knows? Nostalgic camshafts? I may look into that. I asked before you may have missed it, have you considered a custom cam or roller conversion? later
