I just purchased a 04 powerstroke and could not resist in adding the Edge module at about 600 miles on the odometer. I also own a Dodge Cummins for about five years now and did numerous modifications including the Edge fuel injection module. I have to admit it is a great company to deal with and their customer support is fantastic.
Since I have being spoiled for a few years with my Dodge and all of its upgrades spanking just about any truck in the road today including my new Ford I had to do something about it!
So I did and was very surprised about the power gains to the powerstroke with only a plug-in device!
The only downside to the all thing is the transmission behavior! It seems that the higher the juice level the more the tranny acts poorly. Example: it will over rev / slip in between gears and occasionally will not engage overdrive until you back up for at least a good ten seconds.
At one time it did not engage in overdrive at all and the Tow/Haul light next to the switch was flashing and would not turn off on any gears including neutral and park until I shut off the ignition and started it again then everything went back to normal.
The folks at Edge told me that it takes about a good 25 to 50 miles for the transmission to adjust to the extra power but after over 2000 miles now it’s still the same.
Is anyone of you experiencing the same problem or has anyone up to this date heard of some transmission editing software program?
I was looking in to getting a chip and read about the shifting problems you describe. Apparently you have to go easy on it and don't spin the tires until it "gets used" to the chip.
So I know you go buy something that will give you all sorts of power and they say take it easy.
This issue exists because the tranny programming is seperate from the engine computer. The Edge has the problem, the Bulley Dog, the TorqueForce (available through Motorhaven)... etc. Driving it "normal" will eventually help it get better as the tranny learns.

Hey! Hard to believe it but like the Webmaster said the tranny it's actually learning to control the additional torque and horsepower.
It's been taking a lot more that 25 to 50 miles but little by little it behaves a lot better, ex: no more slippage between shifts and more torque to the wheels!
I have left mine to level five and being much more gentile with the throttle and as a result it's starting to work!
Try doing the same and let me know how it goes in a few days.
I was getting ready to order one for my truck, but
you guys just talked me out of it. The best thing about
this truck is the tranny and if the module won't let it
do it's thing, what good is it ? I will hold off awhile longer
and see if Edge fine tunes the newer versions.
There will be no fine tuning, external modules, unlike chips, simply change the fuel curves. There is nothing an external module can do about the tranny computer.
I don't think you guys are getting good boxes if your having the problems that you are, I helped install a edge box for a girlfriend of mine at shied this year and we took it out and beat the ***** out of it, never put a single easy mile on it. It preformed perfect, with no problems, the trans. seems to react slower the more power you put to it, but it's been like that since '941\2 when they started making them, I know the box does fuel, does it do the trans. as well? It is a super easy install, so if it doesn't seem right send it back to edge and they will send you a new one. No big deal, as I have heard nothing but good things about them, as a side note I love the pre-boost smoke on the 100hp setting!!!
Do any of you guys have the Attitude monitor? It's supposed to compensate (defuel?) for tranny slippage. Have any of you done dyno runs with the Attitude hooked up?

Ok..... Then try this:
1) Keep your EGT max level around 1350 or 1400
2) Set your juice level to less smoke (1st setting) you will produce the same amount of power when you are in full throttle but the initial fuel delivery will be more progressive and the tranny will be less stressed.
3) This is the hard part especially when you are racing someone else: the shift from first to second is a little ruff to begin with so try not to be floored, the remaining gears up to fourth try to lift up the throttle a little bit in between gears to facilitate shift (with some practice you will be able to anticipate the shift and it will become natural to you in no time), then from fourth to fifth just keep it floored.
As you get better you can increase the juice level again.
Be calm and give it a shot!
Let me know how it goes!
I have about 6,000 mile on the BD module (same as the Edge) and it has worked great, no slip at all. The tranny did take a bit to relearn the power though maybe 50-100 miles has been great since.
