I'm going to probably put a high flow water pump on the 400 that I am going to drop in my 79 F150, and was wondering what the difference is between the brands. In the low end, you have the Milodon and Flowkooler, and a CAT brand someone sells on eBay, up a bit higher in price you have the Edelbrock and Weiand.
They all seem real similar, though some use a cast iron impeller, others a stamped steel one. Is there any preference in materials used here? And brands that have a bad reputation?
I will be doing towing in real hot weather, and have had concerns over heat in the past, I'm hoping the high flow will help to keep those summer temps down a bit.
I think the key to your system is the radiator and the ability of the fan to pull air through it. The better that system works the more efficent the rest of it is. Are you sure you need the high flow pump?
Absolutely need? Not entirely sure. But I do need a new pump anyway, and while I am putting in the new engine I feel I may as well spend the few $$'s more and put in something that may help. It won't hurt right? Just a little extra insurance to keep things cool. My radiator is new, fan and shroud are good too.
I think the cast impellers are better than the stamped ones. Otherwise, I cannot really recommend a brand. Its possible you are paying for the name, but Edelbrock has always seemed to sell good stuff.
