there is an 85 truck with a 302 and it is carbed with a tfi distributor on it and a tfi coil. is this right or did somebody think that distributor would work
I could easily be wrong, so please don't hold me to this, but I THINK 85 was the last year the 302 was carbureted on the trucks and they went to FI on the 302 for 86.
I am pretty sure 86 was the last year of carb for the 300 I6 and went to FI in 87.
In both cases, EEC IV with the TFI ignition module was used with feedback carbureters in the last few years leading up to the change to fuel injection.
So, to answer your original question, that is the OEM set-up for that year.
Yeah, I am pretty sure it is. 300 EEC-IV started in '84. My '84 F-150 had it. I don't think is was CA emissions since I live in PA. I believe CA trucks had it in '83.
Easiest way to know its factory, is look down on the firewall, low & left of the brake booster. There should be a large oval rubber grommet with a big bundle of wires coming out. If there is, its factory or someone did a lot of work to make it look factory.
The 302 went EFI about mid year 1985, it was a rolling change as they like to call it. The 300 went EFI at the start of the 87 model year, and the 351W and 460 followed suit in about mid year 87.
The TFI ignition on carbed trucks is hit and miss, I've had an 84 F150 with a 300 that had it, and an 86 that had duraspark II and was non-catalyst...
