Hey guys, I'm trying to bleed the clutch in my '88 Ranger. I just got the truck off of my dad and I did not know that it used a little fluid, so I never knew to put some in every couple months. Needless to say, some sir got in the line and it's almost impossible to get into gear now, so I started to bleed the clutch per my Haynes manual. They said open the bleeder and let it gravity feed, but when I open the bleeder, it does not gravity bleed. So, I went to the next step and tightened the bleeder, had a buddy push the clutch in, opened the bleeder, closed it, and he let up. We did that for about 10 minutes and got nothing. So we went to the brake style and opened the bleeder, pushed the clutch in, closed the bleeder, let the clutch up. The first time, I got a little fluid. The second time, I got nothing. The third time, it sucked air back in when I let the bleeder open. What gives?
Here is what gives. We have all heard that the Anti-Christ was coming and we figured that it would be a man. Well, it's not. The Anti-Christ is a Ranger Clutch.
You got air in the master, it is a PIA to bleed. Her is how Ive done it.
inside the cab, pull the starter interlock from the clutch rod, disconnect the rod from the pedal arm. You will see a circlip in the master over the piston. Pull the circlip, pull the piston till just the air and a little fluid escapes, pump the master a couple of strokes repeat the above, reasemble than bleed per the manual, open the bleeder and let gravity bleed. Might have to bleed the bleeder a couple of times, biggest thing is the air in the master.
Thanks Hank. When I got under the dash to remove the circlip, I had such a hard time getting my hand under there that Itook it in to the dealer. It's now been in the Ford dealer for 7 working days. So far the bill is $650, and they said yesterday,(Fri), to call again Tuesday.
