Mine isnt that big or nice but its dry and has lights. i'm more setup for bodywork thou, Frame Rack, paint booth, only got a mig welder thou =( *sniff* gotta buy a new one
Scott, I take it you looked in the users gallery. I have a paint booth also, its not exactly traditional but works very well. I used a 20x40 sheet of plastic that rolls up on a 5 inch aluminum pipe with a boat winch. I find it really handy as its not in the way till the last minute and I can forklift stuff into it from any angle, then put the curtain down. I put a fan with louvers in a frame that fits in my loading dock door and it sits there all the time but comes out with 4 screws if need be. At first I thought I might have to replace the curtain once in a while but it is 10 years old and still fine. It is just 6 or 8 mill common plastic. This shop is probably a bit more than the average guy needs, like you said, need warm and dry, but for my biz it is very useful as I dont have to move things around much and I keep the projects moving and finish as soon as possible so I dont acumulate those "later when I can get to it" type things. If I am not using something its out of here and I can keep my space open for those pit stop things that always come up. I am finishing a spreader now and am doing a complete sandblast and paint of a Lincoln SA200 welder on a trailer right now too. After that its a cab change and complete paint on a Mack Midliner with a small knuckle boom crane on it. Little engine work on it too. Still have to price re-man injectors which is a scary thought. What wire feeder are you planning on? I am fairly up to date on feeders.
Ive got a 6 or 7 year old Hobart. Can't complain about it. Works great! I meant that Id like to pickup a TIG welder. but then i'd have to take welding classes to learn how to use it. hehe
When I started painting all we did was put up anotehr block wall in the middle of the shop, thro some plywood and 2x6s for a roof and hang a curtain over the end. it sort of worked. Alot of dirt and alot of other stuff, from bugs to well...bugs. =)
I wouldnt trade the booth for anything. I wish we would have done the install a little differently thou. The floor is very very far from being level. Needed to pour a 2 or 3 inch footers for it to rest on so that the bottom would seal. Still get too much dirt in the paint. but no bugs!
