Tranny swap
Hello all. New here to the truck fourm but long time Supercharged 3.8 owner. I recently found an explorer for sale cheap w/ a broke 5speed. (needs syncros) I am considering buying this myself for a little winter project. I have a complete xr7 w/ 3.8sc motor, trans (M5R2) and all harnesses. I would like to drop this motor and trans into the explorer body but was wondering if anybody here might be able to shed some more light on it for me.
The manual trans in the explorer is a m5r1. Because the 4.0l V6 is a 60deg engine, I assume it (m5r1) will not bolt up to the 3.8 small block based motor. If I put the 3.8sc motor and trans into the explorer, will the M5R2 fit correctly as far as shifter location? I fully understand that wiring will be a big PIA but am prepared. Driveshaft will most likely be an issue as well but is workable.
