Alright guys, new to this board and can't tell you how much you have helped me already. My truck is a 02 F250, super cab,5.4,3.73 ls,and here is my current problem. Truck is six months old with 12k on the ticker and my dealer is useless, made a huge mistake on this dealer choice for sure. When I pull into my yard and hop out of the truck, I smell what has always mean't a brake sticking to me in the past on some of the older vehicles I've owned. Its only on the back wheels and is strongest right at the wheels. Pulled the wheels and nothing is obvious, and none of the wheels were locked or even tight.Like the truck for its toughness, but between a weak A/C, gas mileage that is way less than expected, sounding like a bucket of bolts on cold starts and a dealer that is useless, I am not getting a warm fuzzy feeling over this whole deal.
Now I am a very mechanical person, but the reason I plunked down almost 30k was to work on my OTHER toys,,,any help would be greatly appreciated,,,Thanks, Marc
Thanks for the reply,,, no I don't use the parking brake,,should get into the habit just to keep everything working,,,only time it smells is after driving for awhile and I get out of the truck I notice it right away,,, hope the thing doesn't leave me hanging somewhere!
I think "monsta's" point was make sure the parking brake is not dragging or sticking. The SD parking brakes are seperate from your disk brake system. There is actually a small drum type brake system inside your rotor. You will have to remove the caliper and slide the rotor/drum off the axle. If the rotor/drum is hard to remove the parking brakes are probably dragging. If my memeory serves me correct I believe you need either a 20mm or 22mm wrench to remove the calipers, and they are tight
