Yeah, the buzzer drives me nuts when i want to listen to the radio. When you cut the black wire with pink stripe, it doesn't do that anymore. The buzzer still works, it buzzes when the "wait to start" light comes on. I don't think there is a "chime unit", the dumb engineers integrated it in somehow.

I also have a spare key wired to the frame.

Everyone has a hard time pulling the ignition out. Just cut the wire and go. So much easier.

Guy's, YOU DON'T HAVE TO PULL THE IGNITION OUT TO FIX THIS PROBLEM!!!

Take the cover off under the stearing colum, You will see a gray or tan plug on the right side, it has 6 wires in it. Find the black wire with a pink stripe and cut the wire. Put some tape around the ends and your done. No more ding ding! This will not affect any other warning chime, just the key in the ignition. That wire comes from the brass points you trying to cover.

Let me ask you this. Last night I unplugged the harness that the black and pink wire goes into. I pulled out the male half in the harness and taped it. So effectively that "cut" the wire. I put the key in the ignition, turned to ACC opened the door and I still had that DAMN chime! So I don't think that "cutting" the wire will work. Am I wrong?

death to key buzzers

Bowcop, when the key is in the acc. position and door open its the door ajar switch in the latch that is causing the chime, That why I installed a switch on the dash to effecively disconnect this wire so I can listen to the radio without the chime ringing.

Bigfinn.

you should be able to cycle the key off and on in sequince to reprogam your comp. ask your dealer for the proper sequince or if they are nice enough they can assist you in doing so. its a whole lot better than cutting your wiring all up

It's still safer to remove the ignition cylinder and tape the contact. Use duct tape, it won't come off. If you have trouble getting the ignition cylinder out, remove the plastic cover from the bottom of the steering column. This makes it easier to see and push in the detent.

I just get a real bad feeling about cutting wires when I'm not exactly sure what they do. I know what the piece of tape does, and it's easy to reverse.

If you want to disable the door chine then you
can just put a switch in series with the left hand
door ajar ckt. This will turn off the dome light and
will disable the key alarm.

This will allow you to leave the door open and listen to the radio.

The wire is easy to get to. It runs through connector C218. C128 is under the dash panel.
to the right of the steering columb. It is a 16 pin square connector. There are two connectors mounted to the bracket to the right of the steering columb. The other connector has fewer wires.

The wire you want to cut is the BlacK/YEllow
wire. Warning it will also disable any alarm you
may have installed. If you install a switch in the
ckt then you can leave it on when you are not
playing the radio with the door open.

fitter565,

Some guys aren't comfortable with cutting the wire, if they aren't, then the tape on the ignition tumbler is a perfectly good fix.

Both work, and neither one is difficult, so it's really a matter of personal preference. There is no right or wrong.
